I think your new website is great it has really helped me with my homework project on Barry. The only problem is that I go to a welsh school and I have to translate it all!

Hi. I grew up in Barry. Rarely do I make it home these days, and when I do it's not for long. I love your photo's. The childhood memory. I can still smell the salt water, the chips and hear the fair ground. Hear the trains at Porthcerri and see the beacon at Wenvoe flashing my HTV Wales tv programmes. When I saw the dolphin in the kiddies pool at the Baths, it had an unbelievable release of memories about my mother, grand parents, uncles and aunts, dogs, cats, bullies, mass, central park and summers at Jackson's Bay and the Knap Lido.
Thanks for keeping that all alive for me.

How nice to find an organisation that invites comments. Please try to persuade West Somerset District Council to do likewise. We used to holiday in Barry every year as children. To kids from the smoke, it was Paradise ! My father lost his false teeth in the sea on the first day of a fortnight's holiday. Can't beat that for laughs. Good memories, thanks, Barry..

(I guess Patricia means the forum on the Vale Council website)

Greetings from Canada. Congratulations, I think your web site is great, especially for Barrians around the world. We really do enjoy the photos. It keeps us up to date with the changes, some of which are good, some not so good! Thank you so much.

I work abroad and its great to look at this site whenever I get homesick, well done on a magnificent job and thank you.

Have just spent an enjoyable hour perusing the many interesting folders contained in this web-site. How can you keep up with all the data - you are doing such a great job! What I like most is the nostalgia (from) of my youth. Viewing these pages bring back so many good memories and joyful occasions I now wonder why so many like me wanted so badly to leave Barry. I have no regrets but i now realize that Barry life was surely special. You have to leave (something) before you know how good it was - How often do we hear this?

I would like to thank the Amelia Trust Farm for all of their help over the last 17 months. Especially big thank you to John Stacey-Marks and Bob (Monkhous) Fitzgerald for all of their help and support in my education.

There are too many police that try to steal my narcotics! I cannot even have a decent spliff on Hanover Court anymore!!!

I can't seem to enjoy drinking in Barry because there are too many [people] who have large egos, small [parts] and small brains.

(Sorry about the censorship, Mark - I might even agree with your opinions, but it's a family show....)

I moved from Barry in the mid 1980's and since I left there seems to be an explosion of dog crap in town and Jimmy Clitheroe is now in charge of the council.

(And yes, someone does update this site - but as it's a labour of love (ie non profit making) it has to be fitted around other business, and I normally wait until I have a few alterations to make - although I do respond to hints! - If you want your message to appear immediately, you can always use the message board...)

I would like to praise the management and general staff at the Barry branch of Tesco for their patience and continued good service while they have been having their refit. It has not been easy shopping there recently with everything moving every week, but it has also been hard for the staff. Some customers seem to think that it is their right to be rude, obnoxious and pig-headed, but with the staff you still got a "Can I help?" and a "Thank You". You are lucky to get a nod at some other places, and the Tesco staff all deserve a pat on the back. The store looks lovely now, and the fresh fish and meat counters are lovely.

In the past few years we have seen the Windsor go from being one of the worst pubs in Barry to the only one in Holton Road. The landlord and landlady Derek and Bet Rennals have now made it a successful, pleasant place to have a night out. And with regular events like bands and the odd solo artist, and now a great Sunday lunch it can only get better!
