The High Street Area of Barry including Broad Street, Market Street, York Place and Island Road This small, narrow street enjoys a reputation for high quality shops, many in niche markets, offering good products and services, all in a friendly, old-fashioned "market town" atmosphere. The adjacent Island Road, Market Street, York Place and Broad Street provide further outlets, and complete the shopping area. A one way system operates in High Street from West to East (Porthkerry Road to St Paul's Avenue), and due to on-street parking, vehicle speed is low. Parking is normally freely available on High Street and the surrounding residential streets, although parking on High Street itself can be tricky at busy times (as you can see, above!).
