Scout Post 2004
Scout Post Stamps will be available in all our usual shops, listed
below. The price has been held at 14p and represents a considerable
saving on the cost of posting Christmas cards to loved ones.
Every year the 1st Barry Sea Scout Group organises the Barry
component of the Scout Post.
This involves the sale of stamps at the selected outlets, and the
collection of cards from the special post boxes located at these outlets.
Once collected, the cards are sorted for delivery in Barry and other
areas covered by the Cardiff & Vale Scout Post.
The Barry Sorting Office exchanges nearly half a ton of mail with
other Cardiff and Vale groups for local delivery.
The 110,000 cards for delivery in Barry are divided into 61 rounds of
mail ready for delivery, planned this year for Sunday 12th December.
(Please note that some rounds are delivered a few days later, and
other areas have their own delivery schedule!)
And the challenge gets bigger every year with the public recognising
the value of the scheme and buying more stamps, plus an increasing
amount of homes being built in the Barry area.
Last day for posting
Monday 6th December
Tips to keep your Postie happy...
Please use the full address, including surnames.
Please use the postcode.
Please write clearly.
Post your cards at the special collection points provided.
DO NOT use Royal Mail Postboxes.
Please note that a significant amount of mail (well over 1,000
cards in Barry alone) are found to be incorrectly addressed. The
Barry Research Department does its best to correct the obviously
wrong addresses, but some are just impossible (AFI's). (Ones without
surnames are merely really difficult! (RHB's)) A return address on
the back would at least alert you to the fact that your card is not deliverable!
NO RESPONSIBILITY WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR VALUABLES, INCORRECTLY
ADDRESSED CARDS AND ANY ADDRESSED TO AREAS OUTSIDE THOSE STATED BELOW
